THE AMOS FAMILY — It was June 25, 2021 – at Fenway – Red Sox (5) vs. Yankees (3). (We ran into Dustin Pedroia that afternoon before we did the tour of the ballpark…the Sox were honoring Pedroia that night with putting him in the Hall of Fame…he’d just retired that year during spring training and they typically have a 5-year wait, but waived it for him.
Meet the Staff: Jennie Amos
Name: Jennie Amos
Position: Director: Governance, Marketing and Meetings
When did you join AACE?
In August 1999 – in AACE years that could be perceived as a hot minute after Christian and Marvin which may or may not be pictured here. Only kidding of course, they weren’t in New Hampshire in 1956 with our great founding members. When I started at AACE, there were limitations on how long any staff member was supposed to be connected to the internet!
Why do you do what you do, professionally?
We have great members who do important work. I’ve never been a fan of math (other than keeping stats or score of my daughter’s games), so I don’t pretend to know a lot about the work that our members do. I just appreciate that with every member I’ve gotten to work with over the years that they want to help other people in the profession to be better at their own jobs. Plus, I get to do a lot of the fun stuff at AACE like the Conference & Expo and webinars. It’s always fun to get to put the faces to the names and see our members in a more relaxed setting.
What have you learned working at AACE? Or What do you enjoy most about working at AACE?
I have learned that there is an association for everyone, but none better to work for than AACE. (Seriously, there really is an association for pretty much everyone like “The Luxuriant Flowing Hair Club for Scientists” – it’s a real thing, just like the “UK Roundabout Appreciation Society.”) While not all of our members have luxuriant flowing hair or when we had a physical office, I would typically curse at the traffic caused at the lone roundabout on the drive into work, I cannot say enough good things about AACE staff or our members with whom I’ve been fortunate to get to know on a more personal level over the years. The first member that I met was at a conference where I was working an exhibit booth for AACE. I’d only been on staff for a couple of months and knew no one at the event. We had the evening off, so I went to the Houston Astros game to watch Mark McGwire chase the home run record. After the game, I started walking alone back to my hotel several long blocks away. Being the good human that he is, Ted Douglas caught up to me to make sure that nothing bad happened. It was the first of many lovely conversations with an outstanding and well-known member of AACE. Over the coming years, I’ve gotten to share jabs about our shared love of college sports teams with Past President, Jim Krebs. Larry Dysert has been the ringleader of countless group outings with the Tech Board going to a variety of memorable shows some of my favorites of which were Dave Brubeck, Levon Helm, Crosby Stills Nash & Young, and pretty much any outing at Fritzel’s European Jazz Pub. From the Rising Professional Committee happy hours that started up in 2020, I have learned that Natasha Sleigh and I have a shared love of bourbon. I always get lots of compliments on my mac and cheese, thanks to Dan Melamed sharing his recipe with me several years ago. And for anyone who is lucky enough to spend more than a few non-work-related moments with Lance Stephenson will get to understand part of how he keeps me laughing. I could name so many more, but I’ll save that for the next time (or perhaps the first time) we meet up at the Conference & Expo.
Tell us about your interests, family, and/or a fun fact!
My husband, Reid, and I have been married for 21+ years and are the proud parents of two awesome girls who could not be more different. Our oldest, Liz, is a junior in high school. She keeps us insanely busy with sports. She is the goalie for her high school and travel soccer and lacrosse teams. She was recently named 2nd team all-region in soccer. Last spring during lacrosse she played in the field (instead of in goal) for her high school team to better help their defense, and despite having never played in the field before, she crushed the state’s single season record for caused turnovers, helping the team win their third straight state title. Cate is in the 6th grade and when she isn’t being the funniest kid around (I chronical my “Conversations with Cate” for my Facebook friends), she is into musical theater or learning to sew (from my mother-in-law – they made the jacket for her Halloween costume of the character Eleven from Stranger Things). Both girls are excellent students and singers. Liz is in her school’s madrigal chamber choir and Cate is the only 6th grader to make her middle school’s acapella group. As for me, if I’m at a game, I am taking pictures. Reid and I love to have people over and I’m making all of the food.

I know Jennie Amos more than 10 years. She is one of the most active staff @ AACE. We are so glad to have Jennie Amos within AACE staff.
