The Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago’s (MWRD’s) Addison Creek Reservoir and Channel Improvement Projects will provide flood relief in Chicago’s western suburbs. These critical stormwater management projects will reduce flooding to approximately 2,200 structures along Addison Creek. The Addison Creek Reservoir will create a 600-acre-foot reservoir which includes a control structure, inlet structure, spillway, and pumping station.
Construction for the Addison Creek Reservoir Project started in February 2019 and will be finished in June 2023. The project is 98 percent complete with a current value of $81.3 million. The project experienced extensive delays related to unanticipated underground conditions and COVID-19 supply chain impacts. To actively manage the time impacts caused by these unpredictable changes, the contractor submitted bifurcated schedule updates throughout the construction process. This is the first MWRD construction project to use bifurcated schedule updates. Due to this successful implementation and the specified use of AACE Recommended Practice 29R-03 MIP 3.4, this project experienced a quick resolution of time without disputes.
