Spotlight On
Ruthvik Sattoor, PSP

by Avi Sharma

Ruthvik Sattoor, PSP, is a project controls scheduler with five years of experience in the construction industry. He currently works for Precision Scheduling Consultants (PSC) LLC., a SDVOSB headquartered in San Antonio, Texas.

Ruthvik was born and raised in City of Nizams, Hyderabad. His father, Prakash Sattoor, is a training officer at the government Industrial Training Institute (ITI) and runs GPRR Group, a family-owned construction and real estate business. His mother, Geetha Prakash, is working as an assistant manager (HR) at Air India Ltd., (a national carrier). She has been working for Air India Ltd. for over 30 years now.

Even with his parents being busily occupied with professional lives, they took immense care and instilled the importance of educational and moral values. Ruthvik’s elder brother, Rishi Sattoor, is currently working as a senior IOS consultant for Vuesol Technologies based in Alpharetta, GA.

Ruthvik was first introduced to the construction industry through his father, who initially aspired to be a civil engineer. Apart from being a government training officer, his father was also involved in the construction and real estate business. Ruthvik used to occasionally visit construction job sites, along with his father. He saw firsthand the arduous work involved and tireless hours spent by his father, which inspired him to take up civil engineering/construction as a profession.

Ruthvik attended Maturi Venkata Subba Rao (MVSR) Engineering College (affiliated to Osmania University), where he earned his Bachelor of Civil Engineering degree in May 2015. In August 2015, he moved to the United States to pursue a master’s degree in construction management from the University of Texas at Arlington. Being a math enthusiast, he loved constructing and solving complex CPM network diagrams. As a part of his core coursework, he chose construction planning and scheduling in the first semester where he solved all the CPM precedence networks, resource allocation and leveling, schedule compression and time-cost trade-off exercises for fun from Saleh Mubarak’s “Construction Project Scheduling and Control–3rd Edition.” He earned his Construction Manager In Training (CMIT) certification in the summer of 2016.

In his final semester, he secured a project management internship at Nanu Construction in Arlington, TX. His role was to estimate the budget of a Dual-Branded Marriott Hotel ($36 million) along with other pre-construction tasks. At the end of his internship, they offered him a full-time position to continue working as an estimator/project engineer. He knew that estimating was not his cup of tea for a long-term career. He declined the job offer as he wanted to pursue his career in the field of planning and scheduling.

Upon his graduation from UT Arlington in December 2016, Ruthvik was offered three project engineer roles from companies like Oscar Renda Contracting (Raleigh, NC), Nan, Inc. (Honolulu, HI), Nour Properties (Cleveland, OH), and a scheduler role from Precision Scheduling Consultants, LLC. His passion to excel in the field of construction planning and scheduling paved the way to join the young and enthusiastic group of professionals at Precision Scheduling Consultants (PSC). He started his career as an entry-level scheduler working on multiple residential projects. A few months into the job, he took up the challenge of working on complex federal projects. Passionate and knowledgeable seniors at PSC helped in shaping his career path at an exponential growth.

His experience involves developing, maintaining, and controlling schedules (Level I to Level IV) ranging from simple to complex projects providing clients with CPM scheduling (push planning) services, pull planning, earned value management, forward-looking (prospective) time impact analysis, forensic (retrospective) analysis, and schedule review analysis. He helped clients with complicated construction delays for extension of time (EOT) to avoid liquidated damages.

Ruthvik has experience with diverse types of construction projects including, but not limited to: Department of Transportation, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC), Veteran Affairs (VA), residential, commercial, federal buildings, education, etc., with an overall portfolio worth more than $1 billion.

His employer, PSC, introduced him to AACE International in early 2017. As a part of the job offer, his employment was contingent upon earning the AACE Certified Scheduling Technician (CST) certification within 12 months of the start date and the Planning & Scheduling Professional (PSP) certification after four years with the company. All the employees at PSC are members of AACE International. Team PSC strictly follows all the AACE Recommended Practices and other useful resources from the AACE International’s library.

Here is what the PSC management and Central Texas Section leaders have to say about Ruthvik:

“Ruthvik has excelled as one of our best scheduling and project controls consultants.  He accepts new challenges with enthusiasm and dedicated to the overall success of the project. He is always looking for innovative ways to improve the process.”

Gregory B. Lee, COO
President – AACE Central Texas Section

“Ruthvik’s strive to improve and succeed has outlived the company’s expectations as a team member. It is an amazing relief to find an employee that can manage himself while continuing his education and knowledge within the industry. His industrious nature contributes to our success.”

Carlos A. Sanchez, Senior Consultant II
Secretary – AACE Central Texas Section

“Ruthvik is an exceptional scheduler with a strong work ethic.  His knowledge relating to project controls allows him to provide the most accurate work to clients in a timely manner.  His leadership skills create effective communication with team members and clients.”

Sergio Menchaca, Senior Consultant I

Ruthvik obtained his Certified Scheduling Technician (CST) certification in August 2017. In May 2020, Ruthvik joined the AACE’s Rising Professionals Committee right after obtaining his Planning and Scheduling Professional (PSP) certification. He also obtained his Project Management Professional (PMP) certification in March 2020.

He is currently working on obtaining his Earned Value Professional (EVP) & Certified Cost Professional (CCP) certifications through AACE International as the organization’s certifications are highly valuable in the industry.

For whatever he is today, he would like to thank his family, friends, the entire PSC team, and his fiancée, Mallika Tigulla (also working as a scheduler at PSC), for showing immense support through all the years.

Ruthvik’s advice to the fellow aspiring professionals is, “Learn something new every day because when you stop learning, you stop growing.” AACE International provides all the resources required to be a successful project controls professional. Follow the Recommended Practices from AACE and review the scheduling specifications section of a project for developing and maintaining an effective schedule. Scheduling is not just about using a software to report progress for pay applications. Well developed, maintained, and approved schedules tell all the stories that happened throughout the life span of the project. These schedules are the primary and most valuable document(s) for any delay claims.
