Meet Moe Roghabadi!

Moe Roghabadi is a risk manager for Hatch, based in the company’s headquarters in Mississauga, Ontario. He has over 10 years of industry and academic experience in executing risk management for large-scale projects in the infrastructure, metals and minerals, and energy sectors. He has been involved in projects with different levels of complexity and scope, from the conceptual to completion phases.

Moe was born in Kerman, Iran, and grew up on a farm in a small village where he was surrounded by animals and pistachio trees and enjoyed a free-spirited upbringing. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and a master’s degree in construction engineering and management in Iran.

Launching Into His Career

After finishing his degree in 2013, Moe started his professional career in project control and risk management in construction projects, taking on different roles and responsibilities.

Moe’s desire for research and innovation in risk management led him to move to Canada in 2017, to pursue a Ph.D. at Concordia University, Montreal. His study focused on developing an integrated risk management framework for construction projects, using advanced artificial intelligence-based algorithms. The research was partnered with Pomerleau, a key Canadian player in the construction industry, as well as Mitacs, a nonprofit national research organization, the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), and the Gina Cody School of Engineering and Computer Science.

Well-Earned Awards & Accomplishments

During his Ph.D., Moe received several awards and published many technical papers in highly ranked construction engineering and management journals, including two conference papers at the AACE Conference & Expo in 2018 and 2022.

Moe’s journey in risk management expanded during his work at Metrolinx, a government of Ontario agency, where he provided professional services to a light rail transit project of 18 kilometers with a budget of $4.6 billion. His expertise and skills advanced during his work at Hatch, a leading consulting company in providing world-class risk management services to multi-billion-dollar projects in the infrastructure, metals and minerals, and energy sectors.

Moe’s Ongoing Contributions to AACE

Moe’s involvement with AACE started in 2018 when he was invited to give a presentation at the AACE Conference & Expo in San Diego, California. He joined AACE as a student member and currently sits on the board of directors of the Toronto Section. Moe was recently assigned as one of the co-chairs of the Rising Professionals Committee (RPC).

Moe’s advice to fellow aspiring professionals is, “Hard work is good, but not enough to fast-track your professional growth. Innovation, creativity, and listening to others are also essential. Through AACE, you will be able to extend your technical knowledge, enlarge your professional network, and exchange ideas.”
